Dr. Jayateerth W Kulkarni is the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Senior Joint Replacement Surgeon in Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road, Bangalore. He has specialized in joint replacement surgery of the knee, hip, shoulder, elbow and other joints. His practice also includes arthroscopic surgery and trauma surgery. Dr. Kulkarni did his post-graduate training in orthopedics at PGIMER Chandigarh. He then continued his training in England. He was selected as a Specialist Registrar in Orthopedics on the higher surgical training programme of Guy's and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, London. This was a four-year training programme at the end of which he passed the FRCS (Orth) examination. He then undertook fellowship training in shoulder and upper limb surgery in UK. He followed it up with a fellowship in trauma and joint reconstruction in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, Canada. There have been a number of developments in the field of joint replacement such as minimally invasive surgery, computer navigation, patient-specific (custom-fit) replacement; newer prosthetic designs like hip resurfacing, partial knee replacement, patello-femoral replacement, trabecular metal augments, etc. Dr. Kulkarni has the training and exposure to these and uses them in his clinical practice.
